Dogs are incredibly resilient creatures. It’s a good thing, too, because the unfortunate reality is that many sweet, loving pups endure terrible experiences at the hands of humans. Fortunately, for every jerk who mistreats an animal, there are many more tremendous people waiting to help those dogs.

Take the story of Nacho.

Tortured, chained to a fence, and left to die, the now-gorgeous Pit Bull had some severe injuries and might have looked like a hopeless cause to some. But not to the incredible volunteers at Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue — particularly the rescue’s founder, Zach Skow.

Marley’s Mutts is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Kern County, California. Supporters of the rescue group are an intense bunch. They call themselves the Mutt Militia, and their mission is to find homes for as many dogs as possible. With nearly half a million followers on Facebook, the Mutt Militia is in full force, sharing, promoting, adopting, fostering, volunteering, and donating.

A little back-story about Zach. A recovered alcoholic who was facing end-stage liver failure and death due to his addition, he did a 180, turning his life around and devoting everything to saving homeless dogs. He says the dogs actually saved him, and he just wants to return the favor.

Anyway, back to Nacho. Marley’s Mutts saved the red-and-white Pit Bull from certain death, giving him medical attention, training, and above all, LOVE. Nacho blossomed under the care of Zach and the other volunteers, and now he’s waiting for a special home.
Unfortunately, Nacho has been waiting for a while. In general, it’s hard for Pit Bulls to get adopted. There are a lot of misconceptions about pitties. Some people are afraid of them. Other people would love a Pit Bull, but their rental agreements prohibit them. Some people sadly live in areas with breed-specific legislation that even bans Pit Bull breeds outright.

But as you can see in this video, sweet Nacho is just a 100-pound love bug. Nacho is affectionate, good on a leash, house trained, extremely smart, and knows the basic commands. And even after the abuse he suffered in the past, Nacho holds no grudges and absolutely loves people.

As Zach says in the video, “He is just the best dog. WHY is this dog not adopted!? He is absolutely perfect in every way. Such a good lover dog.”

Well, Nacho does have one hangup, and that’s other dogs (hey, nobody’s perfect!). He’s not a fan AT ALL and needs to be in a one-dog family. That’s probably why he’s still available for adoption.

“He’s not really bothered by (other dogs) on leashes,” Zach says.” “He doesn’t bark, he doesn’t go crazy. He just is indifferent to them when on a leash. So you don’t need to worry about him snarling or going crazy. He’s a very good boy.”
