Donate a Used Dog Coat to Save on a New One

Gold Paw Series gives 20 percent off for each donation to its Warm Wishes for Rescues campaign.

Winter has finally come to a close, allowing gently used dog coats to find new homes through the Gold Paw Series‘ Warm Wishes for Rescues campaign. The family-run dogwear company runs a donation program for shelter pets similar to coat drives for people. When pet parents hand over their own pooch’s pre-loved or perhaps defective coats, Gold Paw Series refurbishes them. This process might involve anything from washing and replacing the Velcro to repairing holes, loose bindings, and snags. Hardware and waterproofing may be updated as well. The refurbished coat is then given to a rescue or shelter pup who needs it.

As a thanks to any pet parent who donates a coat, Gold Paw Series offers 20 percent off toward their next jacket purchase. The company also donates many of its own discontinued styles and colors, or returns from customers who needed a different size, instead of processing them for bulk-inventory sales.

The program launched in 2011 and is ongoing, so you can donate at any time. Shelters that have benefited include Poodle Rescue Connecticut, Unleashed Pet Rescue in Kansas, A Rotta Love Plus in Minneapolis, The Tillamook County Animal Shelter in Oregon, and SevaDog in Eugene, Oregon.

What’s more, if you’re in the market for a fresh coat (especially if you donate and snag the Gold Paw Series coupon), the Portland Pullover is a great option. It’s an eco-friendly choice made from recycled materials and certified fluorocarbon free, which means it helps to protect our waterways.
