Make This Puppy Lucky: Sam the Golden Retriever Mix

This sweet 2-year-old pup just wants someone to love. Might that be you?

Calm and gentle, sweet and affectionate – that’s Sam to a T! Although this handsome boy can be shy at first, once he gets to know his people, he displays the amazing temperament of a quintessential family dog. Won’t you be the lucky recipient of all the love he’s longing to share?

Name: Sam.

Age and sex: 2-year-old male.

Breed: Golden Retriever mix.

Size and weight: Medium and 39 pounds.

Coat: Long and gold.

Location: Hero Rescue in Georgia.

Activity level: Low.

Likes: Hanging out in his crate, and mealtime.

Dislikes: Loud noises.

Training: Sam is house and crate trained, and walks well on a leash.

Yard requirements: A fenced-in yard is highly recommended, as Sam could be a flight risk until he gets settled and comfortable with his new family.

Kids: Good with kids.

Dogs and cats: Great with dogs and doesn’t mind cats.

Health issues: Sam has had a heart murmur since he was a young puppy, an issue that does not affect him day-to-day. He behaves like a perfectly healthy dog, and will not need surgery based on his recent medical assessment.

His story: Sam was surrendered by his former owner when she realized she had more dogs than she could properly care for and manage.

His ideal forever home: Sam would do well with a person, couple, or family who can be home with him for part of the day so he’s not left alone for long stretches of time. He would also enjoy a canine sibling to keep him company and help build his confidence.
