Make This Puppy Lucky: Sweetbaby the Australian Kelpie and Shepherd MixSweetbaby may be blind and slightly hard of hearing, but that doesn’t stop her from being a lovebug. True to her name, Sweetbaby is a super-loving and affectionate little lady who likes everyone she meets. Calm and laid back, this special needs girl is looking for an adoring home that will let her hone her talents for lounging, snuggling, and napping. Won’t you open your heart to this sweet baby girl?Name: Sweetbaby.Age and sex: 8- to 9-year-old female.Breed: Australian Kelpie and shepherd mix.Size and weight: Medium and 49 pounds.Coat: Medium and tri-color.Location: Angels Among Us Pet Rescue in the Atlanta area.Activity level: Low.Likes: Hanging out in her crate, wandering around the house, following sounds and smells, sleeping next to her foster brothers and sisters, being petted, rubbing her face on her humans, Kong toys, treats, and mealtimes!Dislikes: Being startled by unfamiliar people (she likes to get a good sniff first, and then she’s fine with everyone), and getting jumped on by other dogs.Training: Sweetbaby is house trained, crate trained, and walks nicely on a leash.Never mind her size, Sweetbaby is convinced she’s a lapdog! (Photos courtesy of Angels Among Us Pet Rescue)Yard requirements: She would enjoy a small fenced-in yard, but it’s not a necessity as long as she can be taken on short, leisurely walks.Kids: Although Sweetbaby doesn’t have an aggressive bone in her body, she does best with older children who understand the importance of handling her with care.Dogs and cats: Great with both.Health: Sweetbaby is blind and slightly hard of hearing. She is also prone to occasional skin allergies, which are easily and inexpensively controlled with medicated baths, a fish oil supplement, and canned salmon added to her food. Her story: Sweetbaby was found in the north Georgia mountains. From the state of her body, coat, nails, badly infected ears, and digestive issues, it was obvious she had been terribly neglected. An Angels Among Us volunteer happened to be at the shelter the day Sweetbaby was brought in and quickly rescued her.Her ideal forever home: Sweetbaby would thrive in a loving home with someone who is home a lot and could be with her during the day. She would do fine as an only pet or with other animals, as long as they’re understanding of her special needs and don’t mind her gently walking into them sometimes.Other details prospective adopters should know: Sweetbaby needs to be crated for her safety when left alone. Despite the fact she is vision and slightly hearing impaired, she gets around her surroundings just fine, rides great in the car, and is well adjusted enough to take to new places and to meet new people. She’s an easy dog to care for and even easier to love!Contact info: Email [email protected].
