When a little boy receives a gift from his mother of a three-legged dog, he is less than interested and promptly ignores the pup in favor of video games. The story started out as a web-comic created by Fabio Coala. It was called “Three-Legged Dog.” Readers loved it, including Jacob Frey, who turned it into an animated film for his thesis project at Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg.

Frey titled the animated short “The Present,” and it has since been screened at more than 180 film festivals worldwide and has gotten several awards. We can understand why.
